Mick Jones began his career as a central defender with Derby County before moving on to Notts County in 1969.
After helping County to promotion in 1971 and 1973, he went on to Peterborough United later that year.

Jones appeared in 45 of Posh’s 46 Fourth Division games during the 1973-74 season. He and the late, great Chris Turner established a deadly defensive tandem. Since then, no Posh team has won a championship.
And, after managing Mansfield and Halifax, he returned to Posh for a difficult 13-month period between July 1988 and August 1989.
On the eve of the 1973-74 season, Jones joined Posh from Notts County. He also won the Fourth Division title with County in 1970-71, with a record number of points.
Jones endured injuries following his debut season with Posh, but he still appeared in 101 games.
Jones moved on to enjoy considerable success as Neil Warnock’s assistant manager at a number of teams, including Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, QPR, and Leeds United.
