Rooted Dirt in Minecraft

Publish date: 2024-08-05

Rooted dirt blocks are plant-based blocks that were added to Minecraft in v1.17. These are naturally generated underneath azalea trees, this signifies that a lush cave biome has been generated somewhere below the tree.

How to get rooted dirt?Edit icon

Rooted dirt will generate naturally below azalea trees randomly in a 5×5 cross-section with the base of the tree at the center, they can be mined with any tool but a shovel will do the job the quickest. You can also buy rooted dirt blocks from wandering traders for 2 emeralds each.

What is the use of rooted dirt?Edit icon

Much like coarse dirt, neither mycelium nor grass can spread onto rooted dirt. While it yields itself when dug, it does not convert into dirt after a block is placed onto it. You can use bone meal on rooted dirt blocks to grow hanging roots below the rooted dirt block.

ConclusionEdit icon

Rooted dirt blocks are similar to regular dirt, as you can turn them into mud and dirt paths. They are still quite helpful as finding some rooted dirt beneath an azalea tree indicates that a lush cave has been generated below. Lush caves are hard to find biomes thus making rooted dirt quite an important block.
